What Goes In To Installing a Full Home Security System? Let’s Take a Look

Many people have a home security system already installed in their homes, yet few of those same people know just what goes into such a system. What a System Usually Consists Of

No matter how pricey or how fancy your home security system gets, it is still going to be based on a fundamental system that uses the same parts. Most systems are known to use a bell, a loud buzzer or some other type of loud sound source to alert that an intrusion has taken place. This sound source is typically installed in a place where it can be heard very easily. A circuit of switches is attached to the sound source, and a battery is connected to the entire system. Such an alarm system is useful even when there’s a power failure since the sounder will operate from the battery. Batteries have to be replaced regularly, of course.

A Closed-Circuit System

In the terminology common to technicians, this system is known as a closed-circuit system. The connected switches will be closed when your doors and windows are closed. Since all of these switches are in a wiring loop, opening just one of them will breach the loop and consequently trigger the sounder circuit. If the door or window is closed, it won’t restore the switch loop circuit connection and therefore won’t stop the sound. The sound (alarm) will only stop if the battery goes dead or if a person turns off the circuit from the battery to the sounder!

The Sounder and the Switch

Time to Connect the Sounder

Use solder-less connectors to attach the battery’s black wire to the sounder’s black wire. At the same time, connect the red wire of the sounder to the red wire of the battery. Now, attach the switch loops’ wire ends to the sounders’ two smaller wires. Then, attach the sounder to its backplate and make sure the attachment screw is tight. The short wire should be attached to the battery cells, but only if the key switch is turned off. Shut all windows and doors in the system’s loop; this will close all the entry-detection switches. You can now test the system.

This is all the work that goes into installing a home security system, albeit a relatively simple one, to be sure. After you’ve worked so hard, just test out your system by opening a door or window.
